Combi oven showing an error code? What to do

Combi ovens like Rational, Unox and Convotherm show a code when they detect a fault. Here’s how to handle it without making it worse.

Write the code down

Take a photo of the exact code and the data plate (usually inside the door or on the side). The code tells our engineer which part to look at and which parts to bring.

Don’t keep resetting it

Switching it off and on can clear the code but not the fault. Repeated resets can hide the problem or cause more damage.

Common causes

Scale in the steam generator, water supply problems, a blocked drain, a failing probe, a fan motor fault or a control board fault. Hard water in Essex makes scale a regular problem, so descaling and water treatment matter.

Can you still cook?

Some codes let you keep cooking in a limited mode. Others stop the oven. If it’s safe, we’ll tell you on the phone whether you can keep using it until we arrive.
